Chester Racecourse Roof Treatment

Clearview Cheshire were commissioned to carry out a roof treatment at Chester Racecourse, one of the most iconic and historic venues in the North West. The red tiled roofs had become dull and discoloured over time due to weathering and light organic growth. Our goal was to restore the original colour and protect the roof long-term using a safe, low-impact cleaning method.

The Challenge

Although there wasn’t a heavy moss infestation, years of exposure to the elements had caused noticeable fading and surface staining. The client wanted a solution that would rejuvenate the tiles without using high-pressure cleaning, ensuring the delicate roof surface remained undamaged. Access was another consideration with large roof spans and varied elevations, we utilised a combination of hired access platforms and our own mobile scaffold towers to ensure full coverage and safe working conditions throughout the project.

Our Solution

Our team began by manually removing any loose moss and debris from the roof surface. This prepared the tiles for the application of a professional-grade biocide treatment. The biocide works gradually over a 12-month period, breaking down organic growth and surface staining to restore the natural red tone of the tiles. This approach provides a long-lasting, even result without the need for aggressive washing methods. The project was completed during August and September 2025, with all work carried out in accordance with site safety and environmental standards.
